FC Steel Flame Cut Solid Housings

The FC Steel Flame Cut Solid Housings are heavy-duty steel bearing housings designed to replace conventional SN, SNA, SNL, SNH, SNV, and SNE plummer blocks where increased strength and resistance to shock loads are required. Manufactured from hot-rolled S275 steel plate to BS EN 10025, these housings provide a robust alternative to cast iron while maintaining dimensional interchangeability with compatible standard plummer block designs.

The FC Solid Plummer Block Flame Cut range is manufactured to BS 5646 Part 4:1979 and is dimensionally interchangeable with SN, SNA, SNL, and SNH housings manufactured to this or the superseded ISO R/113 standard. This makes the Flame Cut Solid Steel Housing particularly suitable for replacement and retrofit applications where existing bearing arrangements need additional structural strength without major equipment modifications.

Designed to accommodate double-row ball bearings and spherical roller bearings, the Solid Steel Plummer Block can be configured for parallel-bore metric shafts or adaptor sleeve arrangements for metric and imperial shaft sizes. The housing bore is machined to provide a controlled loose fit around the bearing outer race, helping accommodate minor mounting inaccuracies, slight misalignment, and thermal expansion of the shaft. Bearing locating rings provide axial positioning, while the bearing should be positioned centrally within the housing.

The FC range is primarily intended for grease lubrication and is normally supplied with felt seals. These seals are suitable for peripheral speeds up to 4 metres per second and temperatures up to 100°C. A grease nipple is provided for periodic relubrication, while a pressure relief valve can be added to help prevent overfilling.

All steel housings designed and manufactured by Bowman Arvis Bearing Housings are guaranteed against breakage. If the housing fails before the bearing insert, it will be replaced free of charge, together with a free replacement rolling element, subject to the applicable housing conditions.
